We are excited to introduce Ara & Friends, a podcast dedicated to exploring dietary supplement testing, quality, and regulatory standards. Our discussions will dive into the industry’s best practices, challenges, and insights—starting with probiotics.
For our first episode, we’ll explore a reference in the CRN’s guidelines for Probiotic Best Practices.
In partnership with the International Probiotic Association (IPA), the Council of Responsible Nutrition, or CRN, created a widely-used Probiotic Best Practices guideline.
One element of this guideline states that a product containing multiple probiotic strains should declare the total count for the blend in Colony Forming Units (CFUs). Many assumed that meant using a single test method for enumeration of the CFUs in the blend.

Our guest, Dr. Timothy Stewart with TS Essential Consulting, has another idea—and his perspective might change the way we approach probiotic testing.
But probiotics are just the beginning. As this podcast unfolds with more segments, we’ll tackle a range of important subjects, answer questions many of you have asked, and bring new perspectives that might surprise you.
This is your chance to gain insight, ask questions, and learn alongside us! Join us on this journey, and let’s explore the complexities of dietary supplement testing together.
